Her Merciless Bodyguard (Ruthless Defenders Book 3) (English Edition) Kindle Ausgabe

von SR Jones (Autor)

When you’re a world-famous star, there’s always someone watching you.

Target
They call her Summer. It fits. She’s golden. Bright. Beautiful.
From the first moment I meet her, she makes an impression on me I’ll never forget.
A world renowned singer, she’s in danger.
Someone is watching her, hating her, penning threats to her.
They send me in. The man who will guard her and keep her safe.
I expect a spoiled diva, but I get something else entirely.
The woman the world knows isn’t the one I grow close to.
There’s a line you should never cross in close protection work, and I’m about to erase it entirely.

Summer
They sent me their best.
They call him Target, and it fits because the man is a heat seeking missile of sexy arrogance and terrifying competence.
He’s too much. Too much temptation and danger, wrapped within easygoing charm.
I see through the charm to the man underneath.
What I find terrifies me because Target, he’s far too much like me.
Deep down, we’re both dealing with trauma, and two broken people can’t make a whole.
Except, maybe, this time, they can.
There’s only one problem, before we can get our happy ever after, we must find my stalker.

My first thought was, oh, okay, another tooty booty bodyguard story. Read one – and know all.
But this book really blew me away. It’s amazing. Well-characterized protagonists mirror each other. Both have problems from the past. Drug and alcohol abuse, and Summer lives a life with two personalities. The original Summer and the person who is on stage and really famous.
When a thread in the form of stalking appeared, Jake is the man to protect Summer. I loved the chemistry between them, sparkling but also sometimes rude. Both have temperaments and they have to get over their own issues to find each other. Impressive how clearly the author wrote down all the toxic behaviors of the side characters. And they were called toxic, which is very rare in a book. Summer only noticed these toxic behaviors through Jack’s eyes, which is the same in real life, I think. You don’t know you’re in a toxic relationship until someone shows you. I was very struck by these themes. Combined with the theme of addiction, I found this book very emotional and well done. The suspense with the stalking was always present, but it didn’t take up much space between the pages. The resolution was quite nice and fits the story perfectly.
